The Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida’s mission is to improve the self-sufficiency, economic mobility, and quality of life for adults through continuing education and literacy skill building with personalized, flexible, goals-based tutoring and small group instruction.
The Solution
The Literacy Alliance provides small group classes, one
on one tutoring with trained volunteers, and self-paced online lessons that are customized to the goals, location, and schedule of adult learners and at no cost to low
income adults.
What does the Literacy Alliance offer:
- Basic literacy instruction
- High-school completion including GED & adult online high school
- State recognized job certifications in food safety & digital literacy
- Health literacy, financial literacy & family literacy
The Opportunity
The Literacy Alliance is raising funds between November 1, 2024 & December 31, 2024. Funds raised go towards enrolling new adult learners in small groups, tutoring and online instruction. It costs approximately $1,500 per student per year for full participation.
Online donations of any amount up to $500 will be matched 2:1 thanks to the generosity of local philanthropist John J. “Jack” Allen and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund.
How Does
Your Funding Help?
Provide a month’s worth of essential learning materials, including textbooks, workbooks, and writing supplies, for a struggling adult learner.
Fund a personalized tutoring session, connecting an adult learner with a qualified volunteer tutor for one-on-one instruction.
A group tutoring session in a neighborhood setting for five students, offering a collaborative learning environment and opportunities for peer support.
A job readiness workshop series for adult learners to attain a job certification in food safety or digital literacy.
A customized and flexible prep session for an adult learner to pass all four General Education Development (GED) tests in Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies to attain this gold standard in adult education diplomas that are recognized by colleges and employers.
A year of adult education and literacy programs for a family, including tutoring, workshops, and access to community resources.
