Job Overview

The part-time or full-time Adult ESL Instructor provides small group ESL instruction at multiple sites throughout the community. Instructional responsibilities include in-person instruction, lesson planning, student evaluation and reporting. The instructor manages a class with students at multiple levels with individualized instruction and learning plans that allow for open enrollment and varying progression. Classes typically have between five and ten students and instructors may also manage volunteer tutors serving in their classes. Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Teach in a small group class environment utilizing individualized learning plans for students that can combine group learning with exercises applicable to the whole class or through individualized teaching based on the level and progress of the students. small group class sessions. Provides opportunities for remediation in problem areas, manages a multi-level classroom, and prepares lessons and activities appropriate for students.
  • Lesson Planning and Curriculum: Design and provide instruction based on Florida Department of Education (FDOE) adult ESL standards, identify or create relevant lessons for the group or individual students, and adjust learning plans based on new information.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Monitor, record, and evaluate the progress of students in a secure, cloud based, student database. Maintain student attendance and achievement documentation for FDOE compliance. Document student goals and student communication about instructional plans, progress, and challenges the student may be experiencing.
  • Communications: Communicate with students, program staff, and partner organizations on class logistics, student progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Accountability: Adheres to personnel policy procedures, including attendance policies. Is present and prepared during normal work hours. Informs staff, volunteers, and/or partners of any changes in personal schedule in advance. Updates weekly schedule on shared calendar.

Qualifications

  • Experience, education or interest in conducting adult ESL small group classes.
  • Associate’s Degree or a two-year combination of education, training, and professional level experience teaching ESL learning to adults 16 years of age or older.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; detail-oriented, good interpersonal skills, and able to manage multiple tasks/deadlines at once.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions and presentations to small groups.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Competency and affinity for use of Google Workspace productivity suite.
  • Have reliable transportation and pass pass a background check.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay rate of $20 per hour
